Logitech Squeezebox Touch Manual5/4/2021
Unbelievable. What about the high-end stuff like Naim and Linn - what are they like from a functionality point of view. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. Then you can either connect via Spotify or any via one of a multitude of apps, I use HiFiCast or Bubbleupnp.
The muiltiroom groups will show alongside the individual devices, you just select which one you want to play to. No idea if theres a downside to doing this but I might buy one anyway just to see what all the fuss is about. Its definitely worthwhile, especially as its one of the few ways available of getting a gapless audio stream to the Chromecast Audio from a playlist of music file tracks (via the CastBridge Flow function option), given that the CCA doesnt support gapless playback if its directly presented with the file tracks from a playlist one after the other. The only downside as far as Im aware is that the CCA cant be audio synchronised with any real Squeezebox type streamers connected to the same LMS. However, Chromecast Audio groups (as set up by the Google Home app) can be used with LMS as if they were a single CCA, with the CCAs within each CCA group remaining synchronised to each other. With the SB you can sync and unsync at will and easily add extta zones into the mix on an adhoc basis. With the CCA audios you choose in advance your group to playback to, theres no adhoc adding extra zones to the mix. Logitech Squeezebox Touch Full Use OfYes Chromecast is awesome and I never really made full use of the functionality so the simplicity suits me, but dont be fooled into thinking the Squeezebox system wasnt much better. If i start playing music on my kitchen stereo i can easily add extra zones while playing music, so I could quickly add my bedroom and it will start playback in sync with the already playing zones or zones with Chromecast I have to choose which zone or zones to play to, I cant just add the lounge to the group while playing music, Id have to stop playback and resume playback on the group including all locations. As i say its a big difference but with my use i find Chromecast adequate for my needs but it could get frustrating with more zones. With that in mind and based on the comments throughout this thread I think I would still consider taking that route myself if starting from scratch again. Just thought that was worth pointing out for anyone new to streaming that maybe reading and thinks it all sounds good but no longer an option. What it doesnt really do is online streaming very well but for a large FLAC collection its still my first choice. Even Roon, with arguably the best TIDAL user interface going, supports Squeezebox type devices. To answer a couple of your questions: Yes, LMS is on the vortexbox. I picked up a couple of CCAs when Currys eBay store had them for 19 or some such offer and my SB radios had started playing up a year or two back and i started looking at non-SB options. Vortexbox in combination with LMS and Logitech Squeeze-devices was nearly there, but it helped if you were a bit geeky. Things like gapless playback and Smart EQ are fantastic - yet it would appear that even now major manufacturers still do not include them.
